eBay item specifics for diamond rings: the complete checklist
By Keval Dudhat, Founder & CEO of Soldvio. Updated October 27, 2026
Most buyers shopping for a diamond ring on eBay don't scroll through every result. They narrow the search with the filters on the left: carat weight, shape, color, clarity, metal, ring size. Those filters are built from item specifics. If a specific is empty, your ring drops out of every search that uses that filter, however good the ring, the price or the photos.
This checklist covers the item specifics that matter most for diamond rings on eBay US, in the order buyers tend to use them.
The specifics buyers filter by
Stone
- Main Stone: Diamond. If the stone isn't a diamond (moissanite, cubic zirconia, white sapphire), say so here and never use the word "diamond" anywhere in the listing.
- Main Stone Creation: Natural or Lab-Created. This is required for honest disclosure and is one of the most used filters since lab-grown diamonds became mainstream.
- Total Carat Weight: the combined weight of all diamonds, e.g. 1.25 ctw. Buyers filter by ranges, so an empty field removes you from all of them.
- Main Stone Shape: Round, Oval, Emerald, Cushion, Pear, Princess, Radiant, Marquise and so on.
- Diamond Color Grade: D to Z, or a range like G-H if that's what the report says.
- Diamond Clarity Grade: FL, IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, I1 and so on.
- Cut Grade: Excellent, Very Good, Ideal, as given on the report.
Setting
- Metal: Yellow Gold, White Gold, Rose Gold, Platinum.
- Metal Purity: 10k, 14k, 18k, 950 and so on. Buyers comparing prices filter by this constantly.
- Ring Size: the exact size the ring ships in, and say in the description whether it can be resized.
- Setting Style: Solitaire, Halo, Three-Stone, Pavé, Bezel.
- Style: Engagement, Wedding Band, Eternity, Cocktail.
Proof and brand
- Certification: GIA, IGI, GCAL, or None. A certificate is one of the strongest trust signals for a buyer spending hundreds or thousands of dollars online. Put the report number in the description so buyers can check it on the lab's website.
- Brand: the maker's name, or Unbranded. Never use a brand name for a piece that isn't from that brand.
Mistakes we see all the time
- Specifics left blank because they're "in the description". eBay's filters don't read your description. If carat weight is only written in the text, the ring doesn't exist for a buyer filtering by carat.
- Specifics that contradict the title. A title saying 14K and a Metal Purity of 18k confuses buyers and invites returns.
- Ranges written differently on every listing. "G-H", "G/H" and "G to H" look the same to a person but not to a filter. Pick one format and use it everywhere.
- Recommended specifics ignored. eBay marks some specifics as required and others as recommended. Recommended ones are still used as filters, so they still decide whether you appear.
