How to write eBay titles for diamond jewelry
By Keval Dudhat, Founder & CEO of Soldvio. Updated October 27, 2026
eBay search matches the words buyers type against the words in your title. A title is your best chance to appear for "1 carat oval lab grown diamond ring 14k" and every variation of it. eBay gives you 80 characters, and most jewelry listings use far fewer.
What buyers actually search for
Diamond jewelry buyers search in the same few terms again and again:
- Carat weight: "1 ct", "2 carat", "1.5 ctw"
- Shape: oval, round, emerald, cushion, pear
- Natural or lab-grown: "lab grown", "lab created", "natural"
- Piece type: engagement ring, solitaire, tennis bracelet, stud earrings, pendant
- Metal and purity: 14k white gold, 18k yellow gold, platinum
- Grades and certificate: "F VS1", "IGI", "GIA certified"
A simple order that works
Put the words buyers use first and most often at the front:
- Carat weight and shape
- Natural or lab-grown, and the stone
- Piece type
- Metal and purity
- Grades, certificate, size
For example:
1.50 ct Oval Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Ring 14K White Gold IGI F VS1 Size 7
That's 78 characters, and every word is something a buyer might type.
What to leave out
- Filler words: "Wow", "L@@K", "Stunning", "Beautiful". Nobody searches for them, and they push useful words out.
- Brand names you don't sell: "Tiffany style" or "Cartier inspired" can get a listing removed and misleads buyers.
- Symbols and all caps: they don't help search and make a listing look less professional.
- Words already covered by item specifics only: you don't need "free shipping" in the title; eBay shows it.
Lab-grown diamonds: say it in the title
eBay's jewelry policy requires lab-created stones to be described as lab-created, and the description has to be clear in the title. Put "Lab Grown" or "Lab Created" directly before "Diamond". It's also exactly what lab-grown buyers search for, so it helps you as much as it complies with the rules.
Titles and item specifics work together
The title gets you into the search results; item specifics keep you there when the buyer starts filtering. Make sure they agree: if the title says 14K, Metal Purity must say 14k. Our item specifics checklist for diamond rings covers the specifics side.
Checking your existing titles
Look at your active listings sorted by views. Listings with very few views often have short titles missing the carat, shape or metal. Rewrite those first.
