Selling lab-grown diamonds on eBay: disclosure, listings and pricing
By Keval Dudhat, Founder & CEO of Soldvio. Updated October 27, 2026
Lab-grown diamonds are now one of the busiest corners of eBay's jewelry category. They're real diamonds, chemically and physically the same as mined ones, and buyers search for them specifically. Selling them well comes down to clear disclosure, complete listings and pricing that keeps up with the market.
Disclosure: what eBay expects
eBay's jewelry policy requires that lab-created stones are clearly identified as lab-created. In practice that means:
- Title: say "Lab Grown Diamond" or "Lab Created Diamond", with the creation term directly before the stone name.
- Item specifics: set the main stone creation to lab-created.
- Description: state it again, ideally with the grading report.
- Don't use vague terms such as "man-made" or "simulated" for lab-grown diamonds. "Simulated" means the stone isn't a diamond at all.
Check eBay's current jewelry policy before listing, as the exact wording and categories change from time to time. Listings that don't disclose properly can be removed, and they invite returns and negative feedback even when they aren't.
The listing details buyers look for
Lab-grown buyers tend to be well informed. They compare carats, grades and certificates closely, so complete listings win.
- Certificate: IGI is the most common lab for lab-grown diamonds, and GIA also grades them. Show the report and give the number.
- Growth method: CVD or HPHT, if the report states it. Some buyers care.
- All four Cs in the item specifics: carat, cut, color and clarity, so you appear in filtered searches.
- Setting details: metal, purity, ring size.
Our item specifics checklist lists every specific to fill in.
Pricing in a moving market
Lab-grown diamond prices have fallen steadily as production has grown, and they can move within months. A price that was competitive when you listed may be well above the market a season later.
- Check what similar pieces are actually listed and selling for: same carat, shape, metal and grades.
- Review prices on older listings regularly rather than leaving them for a year.
- Use Best Offer on higher-value pieces, with an automatic decline price so low offers don't waste your time.
- Consider sending offers to watchers: buyers who saved the item are your warmest leads.
